Surviving and Thriving: The Journey of Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura in the Globalization Era

Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta Sukapura is one of the Muhammadiyah charity hospitals under the central leadership of Muhammadiyah. The idea of building this hospital was based on the desire of the founders of the Islamic Hospital at that time, so that Muslims in our beloved country would have a hospital that had an Islamic character. Dr. H. Kusnadi, who was a Muhammadiyah figure, was moved and began to try to realize the hospital with Islamic organization and services.

In a short time, Dr. H. Kusnadi was able to convince the relevant parties, especially the Muhammadiyah figures, to support this noble plan. In accordance with the goals and mission of Muhammadiyah, the Muhammadiyah leadership agreed to establish a hospital with an Islamic character located on Jalan Cempaka Putih Tengan, Central Jakarta.

As the community's need for hospitals in the Jakarta area increased, the Muhammadiyah organization developed its charity work. At the initiative of Dr. H. M. Subki Abdul Kadir, who at that time served as the Director of the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Cempaka Putih, a hospital was established on land measuring 16,808 m2 located on Jalan Tipar Cakung No.5 Sukapura, North Jakarta, now known as the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura. This hospital is the 4th hospital owned by Muhammadiyah in Jakarta, built with the help of various parties, especially from BAZIS DKI. The hospital was inaugurated on May 4, 1992, by the then Minister of Religion, Prof. Dr. Munawir Sadjali, MA. The available service units were still limited, consisting of outpatient care, Emergency Unit, Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Inpatient Care with a capacity of 26 beds.

Until now, the hospital continues to improve itself towards development and progress by making improvements in all areas. Facilities and service facilities continue to be developed in line with the development of medical technology, and hospital staff is driven to have excellent competencies and work ethics. Service quality is improved through Total Quality Management (TQM) and Continuous Improvement activities that focus on customer satisfaction. Implementing the latest medical knowledge supported by Medical Continuous Education and Good Clinical Governance activities, and working to create a life atmosphere in the hospital that is Rahmatan Lil Alamin.

The Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura has various adequate service facilities and organizational systems, including:

- All specialist clinics for outpatient care are available.

- It has 129 beds, consisting of 2 VIP beds, 16 class I beds, 21 class II beds, 72 class III beds, 21 special class beds, and 18 Hemodialysis beds. It has 24-hour service units, namely Emergency Installation, Operating Rooms, Pharmacy, Radiology, Laboratory, funeral services, and Ambulance.

Thus the twists and turns and hard struggle of the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura to remain existent and develop in this challenging era of globalization. In addition to facing challenges from the changing landscape of healthcare and economic pressures, the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura has also had to navigate social and political obstacles. As an Islamic hospital, it operates under the principles of sharia law, which can be at odds with the secular laws of the Indonesian government.

Despite these challenges, the hospital has managed to expand its reach and impact through innovative approaches to healthcare delivery. For example, it has developed partnerships with local community organizations to provide outreach and education programs on topics like maternal and child health, diabetes prevention, and mental health.

The hospital has also invested in advanced medical technologies, such as telemedicine and electronic medical records, to improve the quality and efficiency of its services. Additionally, it has established a strong reputation for clinical excellence, particularly in the areas of cardiology, oncology, and neurology.

Looking to the future, the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura faces many uncertainties and challenges. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of healthcare systems and underscored the need for innovation and adaptability in the face of crisis.

Despite these challenges, the hospital remains committed to its mission of providing compassionate, high-quality healthcare services to all members of the community. By leveraging its strengths and embracing new opportunities, it will continue to be a leading healthcare provider in Indonesia and a shining example of the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
